The first thing that just to mind when unpacking and holding the Easy@Home 3 in 1 Non-contact Infrared Forehead Thermometer (or NCT-301) is the build quality. It just feels properly made, with good quality materials, robust and just stylish. It has an impressive LCD display, big and really bright, which will come in handy when taking measurements in the dark. And then, there is this hard carrier box for storage, which we’ll talk about later.
Speed at taking Measurements
Like all Infrared Thermometers, the Easy@Home 3 in 1 Infrared Forehead Thermometer was really fast, taking measurements in about 1 second. Being calibrated from factory for spot measurements, there is no need for swipe measurements or three sports measurements for averages. You aim it at the center of the forehead, 2 inches away, click the scan button and it is done. Very very easy and fast.
As for accuracy, it is a accurate as an Infrared Thermometer can be. During our tests the measurements were mostly accurate with very slight variations. Because the measurement is taken from the center of the forehead and different circumstances can affect a reading (such as hair, sweat, and even physiological differences from person to person) , there is a Calibration option on the Easy@Home 3 in 1 Non-contact Infrared Forehead Thermometer that allows for adjustments on these variations.
Also it is important to take note that comparing a forehead measurement, with a measurement on other body locations (such as oral or rectum measurements with appropriate thermometers) will produce different results because the temperatures are effectively different. The Calibration option is ideal in that measurements can be adjusted taking this into consideration, to calculate an estimate of what an oral measurement would be, for example.
The display for us was a big selling point. To start with, it is large an with big numbers and just feels like a quality display. But there is more.
The LCD is back lit, which makes it ideal for readings in the dark like when taking measurements of a sleeping child.
But even more impressive and useful is the color coding on the back lit display, which changes color to Green, Yellow or Red depending on the measurement value. It just makes it really easy and practical, and we love it.
The Easy@Home 3 in 1 Thermometer has a buzzer option that lets you know when a measurement was taken. It is not that loud and not that intrusive, but for measurements taken at night while your child is sleeping it could be nuisance.
Fortunately, our friends at Easy@Home had this in mind while designing this amazing thermometer. There is a switch on the side of the Thermometer that allows the buzzer to be turned off and make absolutely no sound. Simply perfect!
Other Measurement Modes
Like the name says, Easy@Home 3 in 1 Thermometer has 3 different measurement modes. The forehead mode, for taking the temperature on the forehead, the object surface mode which conveniently allows taking the temperature of baby bottles, making this an ideal thermometer for new parents.
Finally the room temperature mode, that simply takes a measurement of the room temperature.
We only tested the forehead mode extensively, but the other modes gave pretty accurate results on the limited tests we performed.
Memory Storage for Measurements
The Easy@Home 3 in 1 Forehead Thermometer comes with internal memory with capacity for the last 32 successful measurements. It is the Thermometer with the most internal memory we have reviewed so far, making it the best choice for users looking to keep longer records of the measurements.
When left unattended for 30 seconds, the Easy@Home 3 in 1 Forehead Thermometer automatically shuts down to avoid wasting battery. It is ideal for parents with small children, when turning off the Thermometer isn’t the priority when dealing with a fever. It also has an on screen battery warning for when the batteries are running low, making also a 4 beep sound according to the manual. We never got to listen those 4 beeps, because even with all the intensive testing we performed, the battery never ran out.
The most striking think when unpacking this Thermometer was the storage case that it comes in. A rigid white plastic box, where the Thermometer sits in, protected from the elements and from falls. The storage box feels strong and resistant, but not really practical to carry around, so it is not exactly a carrier case. Inside the storage box there is also space for spare batteries, which was a really nice touch.
The Easy@Home 3 in 1 itself is not the most ergonomic thermometer on the market, but it does not feel uncomfortable on the hand. Quite the contrary, the quality of the material gives it a robust feel, slightly heavier than other thermometer that feel a lot more fragile.
The manual is also well written and informative in that it explains really well all the functions of the Thermometer.
All in all, the Easy@Home 3 in 1 Infrared Forehead Thermometer (NCT-301) is a great thermometer, with all the feature one could wish for. The only thing that is lacking is that it doesn’t read the measurements back to you in voice, but that is about it, and not many other thermometers do that. It is really well though out for use with small children, for easy and convenient use without paying much attention to the display unless it is necessary (if it turns red) , it shuts down to save battery, you can turn off the buzzer sound. Then it has three modes of operation, for forehead, surface and room temperature, and with regards to accuracy it was pretty dead on during our tests.
